Hungry Horse Acoustic Team

These are the people involved in bringing you the Hungry Horse Acoustic Folk Club

ANGIE OWEN

Angie is married to John and they are jointly responsible for organising the HUNGRY HORSE ACOUSTIC. She has been involved in folk music for over twenty years mostly as a member of the audience at folk clubs and festivals. Recently however she joined VOCAL POINT as their bodhran player. Her claim to fame is that she was 'trained' on the bodhran by Stefan Hannigan and Dougie Maclean 'accompanied' her in a music session at his pub in Dunkeld, Scotland. It was probably more memorable for Angie rather than Dougie!

JOHN OWEN

John stumbled into folk music by accident in 1986 after attending a TOM TOPPING BAND fund-raising concert.
Stage experience with the Wirral Theatre Company was the stepping stone from musical theatre to folk club stage when, in 1996, he joined the trio 'Brass Tacks'.
After ten years with Brass Tacks and seven years as a resident performer at Parkgate Folk Club this arrangement was suddenly terminated in early 2006. Since then John has been singing with the trio VOCAL POINT along with Sue Farley his sister and Angie his wife.
For many years, John has been the Secretary of the North West Federation of Folk Clubs and the prestigious FOLK NORTH WEST magazine. John has his own column in the magazine and contributes greatly to its succcessful publication.
In October 2006, when invited to open a folk club, John jumped at the chance of becoming a club organiser in his own right here at the HUNGRY HORSE ACOUSTIC.
John is also Director of the annual WIRRAL FOLK ON THE COAST music festival which in 2009 is now in its fifth year and proving to be a very popular event that attracts many folk enthusiasts and tourists to the Wirral Peninsular each June.

Marie Little

MARIE NICHOLLS

Vocal Point

VOCAL POINT

VOCAL POINT - is Sue Farley, Angie Owen and John Owen - They specialise in singing folk songs in a variety of styles, both contemporary,  traditional and a capella.    Their sensitive interpretation of beautiful ballads to rousing chorus numbers are their forte.     They delight in presenting many well known folk songs with Sue and John's voices dovetailing in harmony no matter what the type of song they sing.   Being brother and sister it comes easy to them.   Sue has been singing all her life and was formerly the musical director of the 'Knowsley Singers'.     Angie, John's wife, is an expert percussionist who takes pride in reminding everyone that she was taught to play the bodhran by many of the best professionals including Stefan Hannigan.    John and Angie are the co-ordinators of the very successful Wirral Folk on the Coast Festival which takes place on the first weekend in June each year.      John is the secretary of the North West Federation of Folk Clubs and the 'Folk North West' magazine.
