ALLAN TAYLOR -- Thursday 12th April

ALLAN is one of the very best contemporary singer/songwriters in the country.    His rich brown voice and wonderful expertise on guitar enable him to create mood and atmosphere for almost every song he sings.    The influence of his times spent out of England, particularly in America, are very evident. We are delighted to have Allan with us again.     On this occasion his support act will be a great up and coming young duo from Cheshire and Staffordshire - Greg Russell and Ciaran Algar.      See more on Greg and Ciaran, below.

GREG RUSSELL & CIARAN ALGAR -- Thurday 12th April

GREG is an exciting new talent on the Cheshire and north west folk scene.   Having grown up in a household full of music, his eclectic taste shows in his wide choice of traditional and contemporary material, delivered in a powerful and distinctive vocal style.    He is accomplished on guitar and concertina and has an engaging presence on stage that has already earned him appearances supporting major artists such as Lau, Bella Hardy, Kerfuffle and Karine Polwart.     Mark Radcliffe of BBC Radio says about Greg - "He plays and sings with a maturity and emotion that belies his tender years.   It is so rare to find new performers who have the confidence to play with this delicacy of touch and yet to sing in such a heartfelt way.    He will, I think, go far."

CIARAN is a member of the brilliant young band - "TRI".      Ciaran, Neil Pointon and Naomh Boadle recently took part in the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Awards Competition but were unsuccessfull in winning it.      It will only be a matter of time though.    "TRI" are booked to appear here at the 'Hungry Horse' later in the year, on 9th August.

THE HOUGHTON WEAVERS -- FRIDAY 4th May

The HOUGHTON WEAVERS are - DAVID LITTLER, TONY BERRY and STEVE MILLINGTON.     This year, the north’s favourite comedy folk outfit will be celebrating the fact that they have been entertaining audiences for the past three and a half decades.       Original members Tony and David both agree…. "We still enjoy performing now as much as we did all those years ago".
The group had a meteoric rise to fame when they were asked to host their own BBC North West TV programme entitled “Sit Thi Deawn” which ran from 1979 until 1985.
"Not bad for 4 lads who set out to have a bit of fun", say’s David.    The line-up has changed somewhat over the years but Steve joined the band 14 years ago.   He says - "David and Tony are great to work with and I love the way they just go off at a tangent singing whatever anyone shouts out".
The Weavers, apart from singing every type of folk song are well known for their comedic interludes, telling jokes, anecdotes or simply relating the funny side of their own lives. They all agree that as well as  providing 'value for money shows' they are a band that endeavours to provide top quality family entertainment and will always stay true to their motto to -- "KEEP FOLK SMILING"                                                            NB: This concert takes place on a Friday evening, not the usual Thursday and it will take place in the main concert hall.    It is recommended that you book your tickets in advance at -

HARBOUR MOON & Paul Reaney -- Thursday 24th May

Ian Davies, Carole Jankovic, Paul Reaney, and Martin Taylor make up this upcoming talented quartet who are based in Cheshire.      They have an immense amount of experience on the music scene as their harmonies and musicianship will show.     Although relatively new to the local folk scene as a band, they are creating rave reviews everywhere they play, so much so that we felt we just had to book them for the 'Hungry H'.     Paul has appeared at our Wirral Folk on the Coast festival in recent years as a solo performer so we are eagerly looking forward to him performing along with Ian, Carole and Martin.     Recent reviews support what we have been hearing on the grapevine as follows: -  "Your songs have an easy and relaxed effect on the listener, at once catchy and different." Hugh Cassidy (the father of Eva...).    "This band really do know how to entertain and get through to an audience. I was mightily impressed when I saw them recently at Fort Perch Rock. They have a deceptive professionalism in their performance and combine their individual talents to produce an evening you will thoroughly enjoy" - Eddie Morris - Parkgate Folk Club.   "Congratulations. You guys were absolutely wonderful last night. Not often I get those 'cold shivers' of pleasure, but I got them more than once. Lovely music..lovely band" - Bill Malkin
